Happy May Day - The Maypole Dance

Happy May Day to you all.  I remember dancing around the maypole in primary school and also the wonderful stories my Mom would tell us about when she was young and all the girls would be dressed in white and dance around the Maypole.  What a wonderful custom and it's too bad that we don't practice and celebrate these rituals that denote the change in seasons.  When we do, we are more connected to that which we are and the unity of all life.

I really enjoyed this video and didn't they do such a good job ... it's not easy to do.

I can just imagine my Mom in this picture.  Oh what fun they must have had.  So with that thought I do so wish for you all a fun-filled and joyous May Day !

Dear Kim and Stacy, thanks for your positive comments. Joyful Beltane to you both. Oh, how I wish people could celebrate this season with the old ways ... maybe someday soon. In the meantime, may She bless and shine her loving light upon you both.

We have nothing like that in Italy, for what I know. I Love all old traditions.

...Wonderful! I'm glad today we celebrate labour day, so happy may day to all of you! Instead, as ancient rural tradition, in my homeland the first of may we used to burn a giant puppet representing winter, with people all around in a huge circle. I did it once, and it was a great show :D

Simona, thanks for your comments. You should check out Elettarossa's comment. She's from Italy as well.

Elettrarossa, thanks for your interesting and informative comment. I do believe the ancients celebrated this day is similar ways. Makes you think.

Happiness to all of you.

What a lovely blog and lovely images.

The children put up a maypole and dance at my daughter's primary school.
They get into a terrible tangle sometimes. Is's lovely to watch!

Thanks Cherie for your comments. Where are you located??? I was wondering if anywhere in these United States this is still done. I have a memory of dancing around the Maypole ... but I'm not really sure what life's memory it is from.

And, Victoria, oh shine on also dear spirit sister. Beltane is a glorious time of the year isn't it.

Happiness to you both !
