Smudging To Keep Out Those Nasty Energies

I have acquired a variety of smudge bundles to smudge those nasty energies away.  These are from a Native American source and they are big into smudging.  I love their way of looking at the earth as our Mother and that we are all part of the whole and it's important to keep nature in balance.  Anyway I'll be smudging myself and the rest of our little family as well as our abode every day for a while.  I feel something is amiss and although I ask Michael the Archangel and my Guardian Angels to protect and guide us, I feel that smudging will give us that extra oomph.  I always ask that the negative energies go back to the originators and change the energy from negative to positive, namely LOVE.  Hoping that this will transform the originators and help them remember who they really are.

Smudging is the process of burning the herbal gifts from Mother Earth and fanning the smoke over your body with sacred intention.  Indeed, acknowledging these gifts brings honour to the ritual.  Smudging is a ritual that should be done with care. We are entering a relationship with the plants and with the spirits of the ceremony and/or ritual and, as with all relationships, there should be respect and honour if the relationship is to work. You should also smudge the area in and around where you intend to do your sacred work. It is also a good thing to do on a regular basis for both oneself and one's living space, to maintain individual and domestic harmony.

The following is from the place where I just bought these bundles.

Cedar is the medicine for protection. Cedar trees are very old, wise and powerful spirits. Cedar is often used to cleanse a home or apartment when first moving in, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person, place or object from unwanted influences.

California White sage is from the coastal mountains of California. This is a large leaf sage which is prized for its rich aromatic properties. This sage has the one of the strongest scents and burns with a rich smoke. The use of sage is for healing. The smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal the person or object being "smudged". Sage is used to "wash off" the outside world when one enters ceremony or other sacred space. Objects are likewise washed off with sage medicine smoke to rid them of unwanted influences.

Blue sage is also called Grey sage or Rocky Mountain sage but the color is a light grey blue and the aroma is of sweet mountain air or a light fresh fragrance. You will find Blue sage throughout Colorado and other mountain areas. The Native Americans have used Blue sage in their rituals to cleanse negativity and hate which then opens up the path for spiritual wealth and abundance, healing, calmness and a path towards prosperous health. Aromatherapy of sage has proven to calm ones mind and emotions and to bring one in to balance with their own wholeness.

Since the dawn of times plants have been our sacred connection to our mother earth. Plants feed, cure, and shelter us; and legends abound of the power of chosen plants to heal and protect the wise. Native traditions relate that wherever sage and cedar are used, no evil influences may enter.

To “smudge” is to purify with smoke from certain sacred herbs. The sacred ritual of purifying with smoke comes from native peoples in both North and South America. In North America the smoke is created by burning sacred herbs such as sage, cedar, sweet grass and juniper. Smoke may be used to purify the body, spirit, pet, home, office and healing rooms, any space or item in your world.

As you can see for the following pictures, smudge feather fans come in all shapes and designs.  Some are very elaborate and others plain.  You can be the judge which works for you ... let your heart decide.

I plan to use a metal vessel to hold the smudge stick.  I would like to purchase a small clay or stone bowl in the future when I am able to do that.  Also, I have been fortunate enough to have acquired a beautiful feather with beads that was seeped in a magical smoke mixture and cleansed for days in this smoke.  I truly feel so blessed to have found this particular item and am happy to finally be using this in the way for which it was created.

This will also be a great way to make our home smell fantastic ... the aroma is wonderful just through the bag that it's in.

Happiness, Compassion, LOVE, Positive Thoughts and Energies to ALL !

My friend, I love this post so much!!! I smudge often, although, for the past few weeks, I haven't and I feel different. It's so true, you have to do this all the time. I know I plan to do it tonight, under the full moon. A powerful time for mother earth. Big Hugs and be well!

What a wonderful post. I love sage sticks myself. My husband has studied the Native American path for more than 20 years and he is always blessing and cleansing our home energy. I have to tell you, I truly believe the air is "clearer" when he finishes. It is truly a beautiful thing. Hugs, Mina

Thank you so much Mina. I do feel the energy getting more positive after we smudge. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. It doesn't take much time at all. I feel we have to do this all the time to rid us of negative energies that are around us right now.

Love and Light to you.

I used to smudge incense when I thought crystal healing and visualization. As now I'm alergic to smoke, I use crystals (white quartz and amethyst).

Thanks Simona (nice name) for your input. I love all crystals and quartz is so good with everything ... amethyst is my stone, I wear amethyst around my neck all the time. I just started smudging myself ... don't know why I waited so long. I really appreciate you commenting.

Love and Light to all.

those are pretty decorated feathers! I've smudged before, but haven't for a long while, maybe it's time to give my home a good cleaning, and blessing.
I'm sure things will feel much better afterwards, and those darn negative energies can go back where they came from.
I can't wait till it gets warm outside, so I can go barefoot on the grass, and feel connected to the earth. Half a year of wearing boots takes a toll :-(
have a blessed day
