World Water Day 2012

International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

 There are 7 billion people to feed on the planet today and another 2 billion are expected to join by 2050.   Statistics say that each of us drinks from 2 to 4 liters of water every day, however most of the water we ‘drink’ is embedded in the food we eat: producing 1 kilo of beef, for example, consumes 15,000 liters of water while 1 kilo of wheat ‘drinks’ up to 1,500 liters.

 When a billion people in the world already live in chronic hunger and water resources are under pressure we cannot pretend the problem is ‘elsewhere’. Coping with population growth and ensuring access to nutritious food to everyone call for a series of actions we can all help with:
  • follow a healthier, sustainable diet;
  • consume less water-intensive products;
  • reduce the scandalous food wastage: 30% of the food produced worldwide is never eaten and the water used to produce it is definitively lost!
  • produce more food, of better quality, with
    less water.

Just click on the pictures to take you to the World Water Day UN Site for more information.

Health and Happiness for ALL !

Great post! seems we are like minded, lol! so glad you dropped by my blog, yes I too spent time working on the marketing to no avail, so I took all the stress off, and am now doing art for myself, and hope you are too.

Water is one of the most important topics, and I remember reading years ago, that the next crisis the world will face will be over water.We can conserve all we want, but it's tough when your city (mine) has sold out to Nestle, we have the cleanest spring water around, and we have allowed the big multinational company to 'rent' it, pumping out millions of litres of water and selling it back to us as bottled water!
Did you know that the last few years, the super rich millionaires/billionaires have been secretly buying up the water supplies, the springs, etc?? so what do they know that we don't? Scary that they are allowed to 'own' water, which should belong to all for free.
Well we live in interesting times my friend, lol! glad you too are passionate about the things I am, but I've noticed on my blog at least, the posts that are concerned with the most important topics on our planet, have hardly any comments, lol! oh well, we just plug away and do what we can right?
have a blessed day :-)
hope I didn't ramble on too much!

Thanks Mo, I read about this day on one of the blogs I am following and thought I would share this with my followers. We can change the world for the better, one person at a time.

Thanks Stacy, I know you have great love and respect for Our Mother Earth ... I try not to think about the big picture sometimes because it's so daunting, so I do what I can minute by minute, day by day.

Happiness to you.

Hello Pink, thank you so much for a wonderful comment ... no you did not ramble too much ... I tend to do that myself. I do try to create for myself, but I have to earn quite a bit now in order to pay for some bills that are coming up later this year. I try to "let go" and trust in Our Mother, but it gets so scarry sometimes.

Don't get me started on the wealthy. Really they are such a sad lot, I mean what are they thinking??? How can they possibly feel in their hearts and souls???? But I try not to think in that way and have compassion for even those who have caused such suffering and harm to all of us on this beautiful planet. For me, that's the only thing I can do right now that feels right and makes me feel ok ... when I get negative it effects me so much that it makes me physically sick ... so I try to stick to the positive thoughts and energies.

Love and Light, Health and Abundance
TO ALL !

A very informative post. Thanks for sharing. I will check out the link to World Water Day as well.

Since we live in a motorhome, we conserve a lot of energy now. Less water usage for showers and eco-friendly washer. We buy less food so less waste. No more overloading the refrigerator with food that will not be eaten within the week.

Highly interesting and endorsed! Here in Portland, Oregon, we are pretty attune to conserving water .... we have even had our drain pipe water converted to run into our gardens (instead of into the street). We are also high in recycling, going so far as to separate nearly everything (food, glass, tins, paper, cardboard, yard debris, and on and on for composting and recycling)into separate bins and cutting way back on the amount of actual garbage that gets carried away. It takes awhile to get used to all the recycling, but in the end it is certainly worth the effort.

Thanks Sandy. It's so nice to see others are really conserving our resources ... my Dad taught me this so long ago when it wasn't even thought of by most others. Only in the recent past do I understand how ahead of his time he really was.

Happiness to all.

Oh Ireland, Portland sounds like a wonderful place to live ... unlike where we are now ... if only we all understood why this is so important ... but, I believe one person can make a difference so we keep doing what we can in our little household until we are able to move somewhere where we have more in common with the people around us. Thanks so much for commenting, I really enjoy and appreciate it.

Abundance and Peace for ALL !

Very interesting post. My husband read "Diet for a Small Planet" in college and says many of the same things regarding the amount of grain used to raise beef, etc.

I did not know there was a World Water Day. What a fabulous thing! Water is so very important and sometimes we forget how precious it truly is. Thank you for the reminder!

Thanks Mina, I stumbled upon this myself.

Happiness to you.

Thanks for reminding me, here in Southern Oregon, we have similar attitude to the one in Portland Oregon as described by Ireland Brady! Fortunately we are having a lot of rain and snow, and at this time of year that really helps our local water table. While I prefer sunshine to rain, the rain is so nourishing!
